Obviously you’re on a mission to live a more sustainable life.
No matter where you are on your journey, you’ll come across frustrating challenges on your zero-waste mission.
One of the saddest and most common forms of waste is food-waste. Check this out…
⅓ of the food produced for us to eat, ends up wasted in landfills.
Landfills are not large compost heaps. Most people assume food scraps will biodegrade in a landfill just like their banana peel will compost bin at home. Sadly, it’s much more bleak.
Let’s take a few seconds to look at what happens in landfill…
* Landfills enclose rubbish which blocks oxygen, light, and microbes from entering. This affects the breakdown process.
* When food (eventually) breaks down in landfills, it releases a GreenHouse Gas called methane.
* Methane is 84 times more potent than carbon dioxide and a major contributor to climate change.
